Ethical standards
The following guidelines are supported by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Guide for Editors.
The Revista Eletrônica Científica da Uergs publishes original manuscripts but reserves the right not to publish scientific texts that offend any political, ideological, ethnic-racial, gender, religious, or environmental stance. Authors, editors, reviewers, and evaluators of the Journal must commit to maintaining good ethical practices. They must observe the requirements for submission and adhere to the format and standards adopted by the Journal.
The Journal is obliged to detect and report the following scientific fraud practices:
- Fabrication, falsification, or omission of data and images;
- Partial or total copying of text by the author or third parties, unauthorized or not properly referenced;
- Duplicate publication;
- Authorship issues (improper authorship/incorrect attribution of authorship);
- Undisclosed conflicts of interest;
- Misappropriation of ideas or data by a reviewer.
Responsibilities of Authors
An author is defined as anyone who has actively participated in the study's conception, development, data analysis and interpretation, and the final drafting of the article. All those who made these contributions should be listed as co-authors.
When submitting a manuscript and the submission letter to the Revista Eletrônica Científica da Uergs, the author declares that the submitted text is not being considered for publication elsewhere. It should be noted that permission to submit to other journals is explicitly given at the time of manuscript rejection. The author is responsible for providing the editor with a copy of any submitted manuscript that may contain overlapping or closely related content.
For studies involving humans, animals, or genetic manipulation, authors must report the ethical aspects of the research with approval from an Ethics Committee. Works without Ethics Committee approval will not be accepted for publication.
Authors are expected to promptly notify the Journal's editors if they identify errors in their text so that, when necessary, an erratum, retraction, or expression of concern can be published. The names of the authors, their institutional affiliations, acknowledgments, funding information, or any references that might identify them should be removed from the version of the manuscript submitted for evaluation, to preserve the double-blind review. Authors submitting manuscripts for evaluation may also be invited or volunteer to participate in the peer review process for the Revista Eletrônica Científica da Uergs.
Responsibilities of Editors and the Editorial Committee
The editor is responsible for the initial evaluation of the manuscript, regardless of the author's geographical origin, political-ideological stance, religious belief, gender, and ethnic-racial background. Editors will use software to detect similarities between the submitted text and published texts.
After a positive initial evaluation, the manuscript is sent for blind peer review.
Based on COPE's ethical conduct guidelines, the Editorial Committee of the Revista Eletrônica Científica da Uergs will publish errata, retractions, and expressions of concern about published material whenever necessary.
The editors and the Editorial Board are responsible for upholding the ethical aspects of the Revista Eletrônica Científica da Uergs and must resolve any conflicts transparently, always aiming to maintain the credibility of the journal.
Responsibilities of Reviewers
The responsibilities of those reviewing texts for the journal include:
- Maintaining the confidentiality of any information provided by the editor or author and not retaining or copying content from the manuscript;
- Alerting the editorial team to any published or submitted content that is substantially similar to that under review and without proper citation and reference;
- Being aware of any potential conflicts of interest (financial, institutional, collaborative, or other) between the reviewer and the author;
- Ensuring that there are no forms of personal identification in the document to be reviewed.
Conduct in Cases of Suspected Ethical Violations
In cases of suspected ethical violations, any members of the academic community (authors, readers, reviewers, evaluators, editors, editorial board members) or the general public must submit a written report to the Revista Eletrônica Científica da Uergs via email at revista@uergs.edu.br. Such reports will be judged by the Journal's Editorial Committee and, if necessary, by members of the Editorial Board.
Editors will follow the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) conflict resolution process to investigate and resolve issues. The procedures used by the Revista Eletrônica Científica da Uergs are based on the COPE website and are available in the Guidelines Manual for Editors of the Revista Eletrônica Científica da Uergs (2nd ed.).
