Publication guidelines

The Revista Eletrônica Científica da UERGS aims to publish works that explore relevant themes in Humanities and Arts, Exacts and Engineering, and Life and Environment, with an interdisciplinary and/or multidisciplinary approach. The goal is to contribute to the development of science and outreach both in Brazil and abroad.

All submissions will be reviewed by the editors-in-chief, members of the editorial board, and guest reviewers. The journal reserves the right to refuse papers that are considered insufficient or not in alignment with the journal’s scope, principles, and guidelines. Authors and the journal hold the reproduction rights. The Revista Eletrônica Científica da UERGS publishes according to the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License.

When submitting, authors must include a cover letter that briefly explains the relevance of their work. The letter must contain a declaration certifying that the work has not been published or submitted to another journal. In this letter, authors may suggest five potential reviewers for their paper, including their affiliation and email.

 The journal accepts submissions in Portuguese, English, or Spanish of:

Unpublished Papers: they report scientific original results that have not yet been published in other journals. The document must not exceed 12 pages considering text, images/pictures, tables/charts and references. Model available at the journal website.

Short Notes or Brief Communications: original experiences whose relevance regarding knowledge of the theme justifies the presentation of initial data in small series. The document must not exceed 6 pages considering text, images/pictures, tables/charts and references. (Do not exceed 6 pages)

Editorials about specific themes will be published upon invitation of the Editors-in-chief.

Technical Note: it is an article elaborated by a technician(s) specialized in a particular issue and has to comprehend theoretical foundation or a complete analysis of the whole context. The document must not exceed 6 pages considering text, images/pictures, tables/charts and references.

Data Paper: it presents the vast amount of data accompanied by metadata that describe data content, context, quality and structure. Data must be in an open file such as excel, csv, in its original file.

Review Paper: it presents the literature review in a systematized form about a specific topic. The document must not exceed 12 pages considering text, images/pictures, tables/charts and references.

 

PAPER PREPARATION

Papers must be submitted solely by the site of the Revista Eletrônica Científica da Uergs. The format of the manuscript must adhere to the template and the guidelines and should be submitted with a presentation letter.

We recommend that the submission has a maximum size of 12 pages already considering the maximum of 3 illustrations. (tables, photos, graphics etc.) and remembering to consider the type of document according to the previous item.

All articles must include the following items: Title (in the language of the submission), Authors and affiliations (name of the institution, contact email, and the link to the ORCID profile in the Word document and in OJS platform); Abstract (written in the language of the submission, not exceeding 250 words); Keywords (at least 3 and no more than 5) must be provided at the time of submission, included separately, and in the article document (keywords separated by semicolons); Title translated into English, Abstract and Keywords; Title in Spanish, Resumen and palabras clave; Introduction; Materials and Methods/Methodology; Results and Discussion; Conclusion or Final Considerations, and References (without using progressive numbering).

Graphics and tables must be inserted within the text according to the order they are mentioned and numbered sequentially by Arabic numbers. The title must be located above the table and the picture. It has to be short yet representative with the complete description of the information contained in the table. Images must be inserted in the text with a resolution of 150 dots per inch (dpi). They also must be sent separately when submitting the file, after inserting the metadata - on step 3 of Completion - simply click in Send a new file.

 

Ethical considerations

In works involving humans beings, animals or genetic manipulation, the authors must inform, in the Materials and Methods/Methodology section, the ethical aspects of the research with the approval by the Institutional Committee on Ethics in Research in accord with Helsinki Declaration https://www.ufrgs.br/bioetica/helsin1.htm

Works without the approval of the Committee on Ethics will not be accepted for publishing.

 

PAPER PEER-REVIEW

Every submission sent to the Journal will be evaluated by at least two reviewers ad hoc whose names will be kept secret. In case of discrepancy between the evaluations, a third evaluator could be consulted or the definition will be made by the Editors-in-chief. The Editor-in-chief, possessing the data, will make the final decision. Recommendations on changes will be sent to the corresponding author and subsequently forwarded to reviewers in order to verify the compliance regarding the requests.

Instructions must be followed completely. The final acceptance of the paper is an Editors-in-chief’s attribution, since the papers that disagree with the instructions of the journal or the ones that are out of the journal scope will be immediately rejected. The omitted cases will be deliberated by the Editorial Board and by the Editorial Council from the Revista Científica Eletrônica da UERGS.
